Biography

Dr. Thevasha Sathiyakumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Coppin State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Clarkson University in 2024 and her M.S. in Mathematics from Clarkson University in 2020. Prior to her current position, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Clarkson University in both the Department of Mathematics and the M.S. in Applied Data Science program.

Dr. Sathiyakumar has taught a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, mathematics, and data science, including Probability and Statistics, Bayesian Data Analysis, Calculus, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, and Introduction to Data Science.

Her research interests include topological data analysis, functional data analysis, and statistical modeling of complex biological data. Her doctoral work developed a functional hypothesis testing framework using time varying persistence homology to study coherence in cancer cell migration under varying environmental conditions. She also collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving epidemiology, public health, and microbiome analytics. Her work has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Her ongoing work focuses on developing modern statistical methods to analyze complex biological and health data.
